PracticeGenius
2nd version
Context
PracticeGenius 2 is a practice session tracker for musicians, and the 2nd iteration of PracticeGenius. The app’s original version only targeted guitarists, and aimed to function as both a practice session tracker and a digital guitar teacher.
The goals of this project were to pare down and clarify the app’s function, reimagine its UI design, and build a clickable prototype to meet the needs of 5 user flows.

Defining the problem
User research indicated that the original PracticeGenius didn’t have a concise, explicit purpose. It attempted to function as both a guitar teacher and a practice session tracker, which felt unfocused to many users.
The user interface design also lacked experimentation. The color scheme and design elements were ok, but they could benefit from reimagination.
Project goals:
Clarify the purpose and target demographic of PracticeGenius
Experiment with and update UI design
Clarifying purpose

ai-generated practice tasks

audio recording + file system for recordings
tuner + metronome
PracticeGenius 2
Concept: smart practice journal
Target demographic: musicians of all skill levels
Features:

journal to store recordings, notes, and confidence ratings

Design system
User testing demonstrated an association between warm colors and music, so red was a logical choice for the revamped version of PracticeGenius.
Fonts were updated to reflect a bit more personality and familiarity, in contrast to the clean simplicity of Avenir.
